I moved my site from to a different host, everything seems to have transferred over, except the images and some of the modules are not working?...

I get a 404 error, but I checked the permissions and they are the same as the server that I moved from...

Do you have any suggestions?...I need help!!!!!

Thanks

Thanks for the detailed instructions but I have a couple of questions remaining.

1. If I have the site I want to migrate on a Windows 7 localhost and my remote host is a Linux OS, are there any things that I should do differently? I would image that some of the paths in the file system will be different.

2. If I currently have a web site at the domain I want to copy my new Joomla local site too, is there a way to put the Joomla site in a subdirectory on the remote host?

Thanks!

Hi Elmost: Just create the subdirectory on your server, and then upload to that directory. For example, if your main site is mainsite.com, just create a folder named joomlademo and upload the site to mainsite.com/joomlademo.

Thanks for the effort and time that you put towards this tutorial. How can I go about uploading my local Joomla site to a subdirectory not the root folder. Anything in particular to keep in mind as far as database setting. The idea is to have the new joomla site available online for the client to proof while the original site is still available for the general public.
Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks

Hmmm peejay, I'm not sure. It sounds like an issue with GoDaddy's servers to me. Maybe they need to update their database drivers?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! You saved me! Best explanation out there. I cannot thank you enough!
One thing: If ever you are backing up your joomla site from hostgator and moving it to godaddy, make sure to delete the file called default.html or else there will be a hostgator page shown instead of the actual desired page.
AND if you had SEF urls setup, in godaddy you must delete the # in front of RewriteBase / in the .htaccess file.
